Task preferences

Choose File > Global Preferences, or click  on the toolbar.

Select Task preferences from the Preference items list.

Task preferences contains two tabs:

  1. Unit start; and
  2. Unit completion.

The Unit start tab will already be selected:

Automatically start unit when first task activity is recorded

Enable this option so that a unit will automatically receive a result type when activity is first recorded for a task associated with the unit.

This option must be enabled to set the other preferences for this tab.

NOTE: If a unit already has an existing result, it will NOT be overwritten.

Result type when auto starting a unit

This setting determines the result type that will automatically be applied to a unit the first time activity is recorded for a task associated with that unit.

Select the result type to be allocated. This would normally be a continuing result type.

NOTE: If a unit already has an existing result, it will NOT be overwritten.

Unit result triggered on

This setting determines when a result is automatically applied to a unit.

  • Completing the first task will set a result for the associated units once the first task is completed.
  • Starting the first task will set a result for the associated units as soon as the first task is begun.

Unit start date is calculated from

This setting determines how the unit start date is calculated.

  • Earliest task completion date will set the start date based on the completion date of the first task.
  • Earliest task start date will set the start date based on the when the first task was started.

NOTE: If a unit already has a start date recorded, it will NOT be overwritten.

Months in future to set unit end date when automatically started

This value determines the end date allocated to units that are automatically given a result. The end date for a unit will be set to the indicated number of months after the latest task start date.

NOTE: If the end of the enrolment is earlier than the date calculated based on this setting, the end date of the enrolment will be used instead. However, if the latest task start date is also after the enrolment end date, then the date calculated using this setting will be allocated anyway.

If a Planned Finish date is present within the Training Plan Wizard for a unit, this date will be accounted for during calculation of the generated Unit End Date.

Task preferences - Unit completion

Click the Unit completion tab to show the settings:

Automatically complete unit when all its tasks are completed

Enable this option so that a unit will automatically receive a result type when all tasks associated with the unit are completed.

This option must be enabled to set the other preference.

NOTE: If a unit already has a completion result assign, the existing result will NOT be overwritten.

Result type when completing a unit

Select the result type that will be allocated to a unit when all of its tasks are completed. This would normally be a completion result type.

NOTE: If a unit already has a completion result assign, the existing result will NOT be overwritten.

Completed result type being recorded when tasks outstanding

This preference applies to recording results using the Enrolment Results Wizard only.  It is not applicable to bulk result updating.

When this preference is set to warning, if you attempt to record a result for a unit with a completed result type and there are linked tasks that are not yet completed, the Status column colour indicator will turn yellow. The warning message will advise that some enrolment tasks have not been completed. It is possible to ignore the warning and complete the wizard.

If the preference is set to error, if you attempt to record a result for a unit with a completed result type and there are linked tasks that are not yet completed, the Status column colour indicator will turn red. You will not be able to complete the wizard.
