Solution

Re-generate your AVETMISSS files in VETtrak and double-check that you are generating AVETMISS files for the correct year and that you are generating National AVETMISS files. When you upload your NAT files to NCVER AVS double-check that you are selecting the correct year and period.

Use a tool such as Notepad++ to open your NAT files to find any problematic records. It's free and helps to identify foreign characters and record lengths in your NAT Files. NAT files are text files that can be opened to view the records. Each line in the text file represents 1 record. To reveal hidden characters in Notepad++ go to View - Show Symbol and tick Show All Characters. The AVETMISS VET Provider Collection Specifications detail the format for each NAT file, including the length. For example, the NAT00120 will be 159 characters in length for each line of data, AVS may detail that line 4 is the problem record, you should be able to see this in your NAT file when opened in Notepd++.

Now that you know which record is the problem you need to review the line of data to identify which field is affected. You may find it easier to open the VETtrak AVETMISS Generation Wizard to review each field. Once the problem field is identified, we recommend removing the text from the affected field and re-enter the information by manually typing the characters on your keyboard. If this doesn't work, remove the data completely, save the record, and then go back in and re-type the information manually again.
