Classifications

Classifications are used to categorise individual roles within their employer's business. Classifications are used in conjunction with Positions.

A student's 'position' or role with an employer, can be recorded in the Client Manager, and these positions can be further broken down to include an extra classification. As an example, these might include a department name or a pay grade.

Classifications can be assigned to multiple positions, at multiple levels. For example you may have positions of 'Manager' and 'Team Leader', and these can be further classified, so that you would end up with:

  • Manager (Support),
  • Manager (Development),
  • Team Leader (Support), and
  • Team Leader (Development).

Open the Configuration Manager by choosing Manage > Configuration from the menu. The Configuration Manager displays an alphabetically ordered explorer tree.

This will open the Classification Wizard:

  • Enter a Name for the classification. Depending on how you are using the field, this might be the department name, a pay grade, etc.
  • This classification is archived indicates if the classification should be archived. If ticked, the Classification will be added/moved to the Archived classifications branch.
  • Optionally provide a Description for the classification.
  • Click Next and then Finish.

Editing an existing classification

  • Click Yes when asked to confirm the delete.

If an error occurs, the Classification has likely been used previously and is included in historical data. In this case, you will need to archive the code to remove it from active use.
